About NHI
Nordic Health Innovation AB (NHI) provides flexible, cost-effective and standardised solutions for a modern and democratic digital health and medical care which strives to bridge social, cultural, infrastructural and geographic distances in organisations or communities. Services include comprehensively equipped virtual health rooms and emergency rooms both for public and private care, and related training programmes and remote access to doctors (digital doctors).
Improved quality of life the goal
The goals of these rural medicine solutions, which have already been extensively tried and explored in Storuman Municipality, is to improve the quality of life and increase accessibility for everyone in the community, including those living in extremely rural areas or who are in exposed urban solitude and are a long and unmanageable distance from doctors and other medical care specialists.
NHI in Sweden
Three health rooms have been introduced in Slussfors in Storuman Municipality, Gällö in Bräcke Municipality and Stugun in Ragunda Municipality. The four northernmost counties in Sweden: Västerbotten, Norrbotten, Jämtland Härjedalen and Västernorrland, expect to have at least 20 health rooms within two years.
NHI around the world
NHI in Norrland is in pole position in the global initiative on virtual health rooms and a new digital health care. But the question is whether or not nimble-footed countries such as Kenya and Indonesia will get there first. Meanwhile, several other countries in Africa and Asia are lining up to digitalise their health care systems.
In Homa Bay County in Kenya the health care authorities have declared an interest in collaborating with NHI and Sida on building up a health care infrastructure using modern information technology and virtual health rooms. The goal is to reach out to and work closely alongside citizens by providing remote care, virtual health rooms and preventative maternity care in one of Kenya’s most impoverished regions. NHI’s initiatives in Kenya have now also attracted the attentions of the governments of Congo-Kinshasa, Nigeria and South Africa.
In Indonesia, NHI is taking part in Rural Health project Room for Care, by providing a testbed for virtual health care in a village in Gunungkidul on the island of Jakarta in Indonesia. The goal of the project is to improve the capacity of local Indonesian authorities, and to improve the health and well-being of the population in rural areas of Indonesia.
