Microsoft
Microsoft was founded in 1975 by Bill Gates and Paul Allen. Its head office is in Redmond, Washington, USA and the company’s operations span 103 countries and regions with some 91,260 employees. The company’s sales in the 2008 financial year totalled USD 60.42 billion. There are few regions in the world where the use of personal computers and the Internet is as widespread as Sweden. This is why Sweden has long been one of Microsoft’s key markets. Microsoft conducts a substantial number of collaborative projects with businesses, agencies and organisations in Sweden. This includes the certification of specialists in Microsoft’s software in cooperation with Sweden’s universities and training companies, and the sponsoring of IT projects for different groups in society. Today some 450 people work at Microsoft AB in Kista, just north of Stockholm.

Since 1993 Cambio has concentrated its expertise and capacity on fulfilling the vision of a comprehensive IT support system for health care. Cambio is one of the largest suppliers in the Nordic region and a growing player in the European market with some 100,000 users at emergency clinics and university hospitals, health care centres and specialist units. Cambio has some 400 employees in Linköping, Stockholm, Århus (DK), Reading (UK) and Colombo (Sri Lanka), many of whom have long experience of health and medical care.
Sida
Sida considers health to be both a human right and a development issue. Improved health contributes to social development and economic growth as people are able to play an active role in society. In the world’s poorest countries, the number of deaths from infectious diseases such as HIV and AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis is still high. The health systems in these countries are already heavily burdened. When the inhabitants are also struck by lifestyle-related illnesses, the burden is doubled. Sida therefore provides support to national health systems that make medical care available to the impoverished sections of the population. As a part of these initiatives, Sida has entered into a close collaboration with NHI.
County councils and municipalities
NHI works closely alongside Västerbotten County Council, the municipalities in Västerbotten and Region Jämtland Härjedalen. The role of county councils and municipalities is to actively participate in projects that drive the development of new forms of medical and health care that can both provide good service and are economically feasible.
Test companies
NHI collaborates with number of companies that wish to test their products in virtual health rooms and use them in the service. After a pre-determined test period, the companies get an evaluation with a record of the users’ experiences and can thereby refine and market their products according to prevailing conditions.
With quality-assured products, these companies obtain a competitive advantage and these activities thereby help to enhance the competitiveness of the Swedish medical technology industry.
With time, various companies will test their products in the room.
